Festivals & Events
Festivals are a big part of Okinawan culture, and through them onlookers can catch a glimpse of Okinawa's illustrious history. But not all festivals are of ancient origin; new ones spring up each year. The Okinawan people love to get out and express themselves through music, dance and entertainment, which simply means that the Okinawans love festivals, with more celebrations than any other part of Japan. To understand Okinawan culture, you have to see its festivals, and the June haarii events are a good place to start, as are the traditional events in August and September. Festivals dates vary each year, so please check our events page for more information.
