Nakamura-ke (Nakamura House)
Aza Oshio 106, Kitanakagusuku Village
Nestled in a quaint Okinawan neighborhood is one of Okinawa's greatest historical family residences, Nakamura House. This house was used by Gashi, an ancestor of the Nakamura family, when he relocated here from Zakimi in Yomitan during the 15th century. This move occurred when Gashi's pupil, Lord Gosamaru, received an order from the king at Shuri to move to Nakagusuku. The Nakamura residence is typical of a rich farmer's house of the period and is similar in structure to houses found in mainland Japan between 1185-1572. |
