Ryukyu Lacquerware

Originating in the late 14th century, Ryukyu lacquerware is made from the wood of the deigo tree and is renowned for its quality and unique designs. After a piece has been completed, the designs are added by hand painting and by applying a gold leaf, foil and bits of shell. Upstairs, you can view the entire process of creating these masterpieces. |

| From Naha, head south on Route 331 towards Itoman. Continue south past Nashiro. Ryukyu Lacquerware is located beyond Ryukyu Glass Mura and just before Himeyuri no To on Route 331.
