Sonohyan Utaki Ishimon
1-7 Mawashi, Shuri, Naha City
Built for the gods to pass through, this limestone gate was commissioned by Shoushin, the third king of the Ryukyu Kingdom, who ruled between 1477 and 1526. With the architectural work performed by master craftsman Nishito from Taketomi Island, who also erected the walls of Shuri Castle, the gate's stonework is considered beyond the limits of modern technology. |
