Okinawa Prefectural Museum
1-1 Shuri, Onaka-cho, Naha City
Many of Okinawa’s cultural assets were destroyed in World War II. After the war, many U.S. military members and local volunteers worked together to salvage remnants of historical value and donated them to the museum. The museum is located on the former site of King Sho’s mansion, and parts of the original stone walls can still be seen next to the museum. There are four exhibition rooms showing the development of the people of the Ryukyu Islands, its natural history, arts and crafts, and Okinawan folklore. |
