From November 1st, Yamakawa Distillery in Motobu Town has started selling their original awamori (Okinawan hard liquor) named "Kaneyama 1971." This 35-year-old awamori has an alcohol percentage of 40% and is available in 720 milliliter (24.48 ounce) bottles. This may be the oldest awamori available in stores and only 100 bottles exist throughout liquor stores in Okinawa. The price is ¥150,000 including tax.
As its name suggests, the brand was distilled in 1971, and has been preserved in a tank ever since. Yamakawa Distillery describes their product as "having a scent like cacaos with a smooth and rich taste. Its lingering aroma is also amazing." The bottle features a label with "Kaneyama" in golden lettering and is wrapped in paper made from getto leaves which has a strong odor. Yamakawa Distillery pads the bottom of the box with indigo handkerchiefs, a special product in Motobu Town.
